Cadet Class
The Cadet Dinghy has been sailing on the River Deben for many years and with the class celebrating its 60th year this year it is still a very popular choice for children at WSC today. The Cadet is also a very competitive class on a national scale with the a good history of
champions from the UK and WSC.
Please take a look at the following to introduce you to the Cadet Class at :

Geoff Harris
Waldringfield Cadet Squadron No 35 -
Sailing report 2009.
The Cadets at Waldringfield have had another excellent year. The
emphasis has been increasingly on sailing at the club, but as ever there
have been some fantastic away achievements.
The Cadet is proving as popular as ever as a boat for young people and
unlike other clubs we are experiencing a lot of interest and effectively
fighting off the challenge from more modern designs.
There have been good numbers at club racing; Spring 1-11, Spring 2-17,
Summer 1-18, Summer 2-19, Autumn-14, Freezer-19, with some also enjoying
the Wednesday evening handicap series. There were reasonable turnouts
for the newly designed trophy races, with the exception of the
Navigation race. It is clear that further recognition is needed for
those competing on the day.
The sailors have also enjoyed six Sunday training sessions and the
normal three days at half term. These events proved to be as popular as
ever with some welcome support for funding of trainers from the RYA.
Junior sailing events are as popular as ever with many youngsters
turning up to find out what it is all about. We are in the great
position that we have a glut of hopeful crews, who need to be patient in
order to pick up regular crewing jobs.
The two highlights of the year proved to be as enjoyable as ever. The
Open Meeting attracted 26 boats and Cadet Week 22 boats in Gold, 13 in
Silver and 10 Lasers. Weather, tide and a great social programme helped
to produce a really enjoyable week, which was run as well as ever by
Woolfy and Clare.
Away form the club there were excellent results in the Nationals and
Indicators, with six boats now involved in Zone and National Squad
training.
Plans are well in place for 2010, with a similar programme of events and
activities being put together.
