 Controversial Hartley 16

Report By Mike O'Malley

"When WSC members were in Copenhagen at the Wayfarer 'Worlds' in August we spotted two boats on identical new trolleys.

One was a Hartley [Purple & White] and the other a fairly new Plus S [Turquoise]. The Plus S fitted comfortably on the fixed cradle trolley while the Hartley had room to spare!

The photos are illuminating and along with the Transom photo provided by the Class give a clear indication that all is not well.

IPD, and therefore Harley Laminates, as well as the UKWA have the laser measurements of 6 boats - plus the measurements of Scavenger and Mike Mac's boat to be absolutely certain of knowing the tolerances that can be applied to any new build project.

Given the documentary evidence, proper measurement of the Hartley 16 must take place and these compared to these measurements.

Before WSC Wayfarers could accept it as a Wayfarer it must be demonstrated that the boat complies with WIC rules governing the shape  to ensure that they will compete fairly in our fleet at Waldringfield - as well as at national and international level."
