Alton Water Sport Centre's Frostbite Series

Waldringfield Sailing Club members once again had remarkable success in the Alton Water Sport Centre's Frostbite Series, held on Sundays over the  last two months.  Four WSC boats placed in the top 10 out of over 100 entries.

Harry Pynn and crew Clare Gosling (Lark 2452) finished the hard fought final race in third place, just ahead Christopher Fish and crew Michael Gilson (Lark 2494) in 4th. Both crews almost blew it at the final  [gybe] mark by capsizing in spectacular synchronised style. However, they  were just far enough in front to sail the last leg full of water and still  keep to handicap time.

Alan and Helen Krailing, sailing their RS200 for a  change, had started the race well and hoped to leapfrog Pynn/ Gosling in  the series but an uncharacteristic capsize put pay to that and  demonstrated how difficult the conditions were!  In a series where the heavy trapezing crews were at a significant  advantage due to the predominantly high winds, the WSC members showed  their high standards by consistently scoring low single figure results.

Pynn/ Gosling took first in the medium handicap and second overall (20pts)  just behind winners Matt Hart/ Craig Hurrell (AWSC) in a 505. The  Krailings were third overall and  Fish/ Gilson 4th, making a clean sweep of the medium handicap fleet.  Making up the top WSC quartet, Matt Stearn/  Antonia Stear (Lark) took 7th overall with four top ten race results.
